Monte Tuvu
Please read carefully the Warning note!
Monte Tuvu is closed to climbing
The owner of the land where Monte Tuvu crag sits, in the municipality of Aglientu, has formally revoked all access. Climbing at Monte Tuvu is no longer permitted.
We’re putting this out clearly because the crag is still listed on many platforms, apps and digital topos as an active destination — and it isn’t anymore.
How it happened
The landowner, Marius Kaup — a climber himself — had for years simply tolerated a small number of locals. No signs, no issues. Then Monte Tuvu started appearing online, on apps, on digital topos, and went from a quiet local spot to a national and international destination.
What had been a respectful trickle became a constant flow: cars every weekend, wild camping, fires, drones, dogs, litter, organised commercial activity on private agricultural land. Too much. The owner has decided to put a stop to it, and he is entirely within his rights to do so.
He will also be completing the existing fencing and installing systems to prevent unauthorised access.
What to do now
Respect the closure, and spread the word.
Update your topos. Flag the closure wherever Monte Tuvu still appears as an active destination. Don’t organise trips there, don’t promote it.
If the climbing community respects this decision — in practice, not just in words — there remains a chance of future dialogue with the owner. If people keep showing up regardless, that chance disappears for good. It wouldn’t be the first time we’ve lost a crag because we collectively failed to respect a boundary.
